When many people think of online daters, some of the people that come to mind may be professionals that have no time to bar hop and people who may have had a failed marriage and are looking to get back in the game. However, studies now show that one of the major groups of people that have started to use online dating sites are college students. Experts say that this was not always the case, but now college student online daters are on the rise.

The study goes on to suggest that there are a few different things that could be causing this major shift. When college students were asked why they are turning to online dating, many said that there were sick of the party scene. Others went on to say that they would like to find long-term relationships and not just one night stands. Female college students said that online dating sites made it much easier to weed out the bad matches from the good. All of these things lead to the increase in the number of college kids on these online dating sites.

To adapt to this, sites like eHarmony have now lowered their minimum age from 21, to 18. However, other sites, which just cater to college-aged students, have been growing in popularity as well. This includes such sites as StudentLove and CampusHook.

However, some experts say that it’s not just college-aged memberships that are on the rise on these online dating sites. Many sties have reported an increase in all age groups as the recession has changed the way people have been looking for dates.
