A 26 year old man from Fredericksburg was arrested on charges of terrorizing a woman that he had met on Craigslist. The arrest has some online dating experts, as well as police, saying that online daters should use a lot more common sense when venturing into the dating world than other face to face daters.
David Evans, the editor of Online Dating Insider, said that the first thing for people to remember is common sense. This is something that seems to go out the door for people when they are nervous about first meeting someone, or the possibility of meeting someone. This is something that online daters do not have to worry about at first.
In Fairfax County, a 23 year old woman, was on her third date with a man at her apartment. The man told the woman to get undressed, threatened her with a knife and made her get into his car. Her erratic driving caught the attention of a nearby officer. She was able to flee the car at a stop light and get away.
Fairfax County Police Officer, Tawny Wright, went on to say that people need to follow their instincts. This means that if people feel that there is something that is not right, then most likely there is.
However, online daters are not safe from not using common sense. Some suggest that it’s a good idea to get their identity verified at online sites such as Honesty Online. They also recommend getting a criminal background check before a date. Also, when finally going out on a date with someone, it’s a good idea to have a friend call or text you from time to time to make sure that everything is fine.
