YNet, a group that helps to draw attention to teen dating violence, was able to set up an Ultimate Frisbee tournament to help raise some money and bring up more awareness on teen dating violence. The group YNet is a partnership between GHS and the YWCA of Greenwich.

YNet said that they choose the classic summer pastime game Frisbee to help raise money, because it has started to surge in popularity over the past few years. Last year to raise money the group chose to sell flying discs that had the customized YNet logo on them. The logo is a heart crossed with a peace symbol.

However, this year YNet wanted to come up with an even larger fundraising event that was centered around a sport. Thus, Frisbee, which is played much like a game of football, seemed to be the best choice. To help raise awareness of the fundraiser, the group posted fliers all around town to help recruit players. The group also tried to recruit players through Facebook.

The fundraiser itself was a big success. People cheered on different teams, which played in 15, 14 minute games. Even the Greenwich police officers got in on the fun and made up their own team named Silver Shield. The Greenwich police said that they wanted to be involved in a good cause like helping to bring awareness to teen dating violence.

Although the cops lost in the first game 5-1 against Team Good, they said that at least they lost for a good cause. However, they did jokingly say that most of them had worked the midnight to 8 a.m. Shift. Thus, no sleep and no practice do not mix. Also, they went on to say that most of them had not picked up a Frisbee in years.
