Little did Steven Kay know that when he turned to his therapist, Dr. Harvey Rosenberg, for help when his wife asked for a divorce, that he would be getting more than what he bargained for. In fact, people could go as far to say that the so called “help” that the doctor offered was not what Kay had in mind.
Mr Kay went on to tell ABC News that, after almost eight years of therapy, he found out that Dr. Rosenberg had been dating his ex-wife Laurie. In fact, the doctor had been dating his ex-wife while treating Kay for depression over the divorce.
So enlightened by this information, Kay is now suing Rosenberg for medical negligence and for violating the applicable standard of psychiatric care. Kay went on to say that it was the worst betrayal that he had ever felt in his life. Although Mr Kay said that he knew that his wife would eventually date again, never in his wildest dreams did he expect it to be his therapist.
During these therapy sessions, Kay would tell his therapist that he was growing more and more depressed due to the heartbreak he suffered during the divorce. It was so bad that Kay said that he was having trouble functioning.
Kay said that he is not sure when the two started dating, whether it was before or after the divorce, but he does know that the therapist conveniently told him to accept the divorce and agree to a settlement. So not only did Doctor Rosenberg take Kay’s wife, he took his money. Kay Spent over $87,000 on treatment from Dr. Rosenberg over the course of eight years.
