A recent study done on the United States graded each state individually on dating violence. These grades were given in standard school grades ranging from A (being the best) and F (being the worst).
The study was done by “Break the Cycle”, which found only one state that allowed minors of any age to go to court by themselves without an adult to request protection. This ones state was New Hampshire, and it was one of the only 5 states to receive an A. The other states that got an A were: Oklahoma, California, Minnesota, and Illinois.
States that did not offer protection for minors, or for relationships that were not fully recognized, were given failing grades right away. Out of all the states in the United States, 11 completely failed the study.
Among the failing states where: Georgia, Utah, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia to name a few.
This new study was brought about after the big domestic violence case between Chris Brown and Rihanna. “Break the Cycle” is hoping to open up the eyes of young teens everywhere who may be in an abusive relationship and not saying anything.
In another study that was done on teenagers, 25% of all teens that took place in the study say that they report all verbal, sexual, physical or emotional abuse that takes place in their relationship. Another 20% of high school girls say they report sexual or physical abuse from their dating partner. However 54% of high school kids only report dating violence to other peers.
