On Friday, a man from Souderton showed no emotion while he pleaded guilty to swindling women, whom he met through the internet dating service MillionaireMatch.com, into making an investment in his fake businesses.
Paul S. Krueger, a 50-year-old, bald homeless man, was able to trick $100,000 out of 13 women by pretending to be a record producer on MillionaireMatch.com. Krueger, who used the money from the women to gamble in Atlantic City, pleaded guilty on Friday to theft in a courtroom in Montgomery County. He was sentenced to serve 5 to 7 years in prison and also to pay a restitution of $100,000.
Robert Sander, the Assistant District Attorney, said that Krueger hurt the victims, as they felt cheated after putting their trust in him. All of the money was blown at casinos, he continued, since Krueger had a bad habit of gambling. Sander also said that he was homeless at the time and living on Atlantic City streets when they arrested him. Even though he was homeless, Krueger operated the scam with a laptop, which let him communicate to many people.
The victims of the scam included 8 women from MillionaireMatch.com, which defines a millionaire to be anyone that makes $150,000 or more a year. The scam took place from April of last year until last May, which was when he was arrested.
Last October, an investigation was started on Krueger when the police in Souderton received a tip that a woman had paid $10,000 to a man that she met on the internet, receiving nothing in return. This same woman had introduced 5 other women to Krueger, who also made investments in him, ranging around $2,000 to $20,000.
