Nine places to meet people

Trying to find places to meet people can become tricky. Not everyone wants to club/pub hop and not everyone wants to meet a man who is probably drunk or high anyway. So then where do you find decent single people?

Here are nine places to be on the look out for a possible available hottie!

1. The supermarket

The supermarket - make sure you go to the posh food section,
not the value food section to pick up dates!

May not seem like a good place to meet people but it is. There is so much to start a conversation over “Gosh those cucumbers are big” or you could play the damsel in distress and ask him to get the box of whatever off the shelf you can’t reach. Next time you popping in for bread and milk, take a slow walk up and down the isles – who knows what you may find!

2. The gym

Fit and dedicated a gym bunny - pretty perfect!

If you battling to get motivated to go to gym, think of it as a singles club with the added benefit of getting fit! It appears that everyone at my gym, which is rather large, knows each other. I often wonder how much behind the scenes dating is really going on. Cycling is the perfect way to case the joint for talent. Once you have spotted him, there are loads of ways to get his attention. If it’s your first week though, trying to lift the 1000kg weights or run on the treadmill at the speed of light may not be the best way to grab his attention. Added bonus is, the guys you meet have seen you sweaty with your face blood red and your hair stuck to your face so you can only go up when you actually go on a date!

3. A sports club

Sports clubs rock. Although people are really competitive

If you into sports then this is a pretty cool way to meet people who have the same interests as you. And you get to do something you enjoy. You will need to make sure it is something you would like to do though.

4. Work

There are some advantages to dating at work - but it’s pretty scary though!

While it is not recommended dating people you work with its still a pretty good way to meet people. A colleague may have a single friend or a single brother. When the offer is extended to go for drinks after work, go with and get to know the people a bit.

5. Doctors Waiting Room

Doctor’s waiting room? Not that sure with these guys here!

No really! How long do you spend sitting staring into the face of fellow patients? So why not start a conversation with the cute boy sitting next to you? Granted none of you may really feel like talking much being sick and all. But it’s worth a shot. It’s a captive audience. And people are very willing to share how awful they feel. But first make sure you are friends with the receptionist in case you need to get contact details from her for the said cute boy!

6. The park

Minor British celebritiy Davina McCall met her husband walking her dog

Walking the dog aimlessly around the park is a perfect way to attract attention. Just try not looking aimless though. When you spot him with his oversized man dog walk past and let the dogs get acquainted and ask him casually what his dogs name is. When he says RAMBO try not laugh though. Also don’t lose control of your dog; having your little GIGO swallowed whole by Rambo is not the way to start a lasting relationship.

7. The traffic

Traffic flirting - try and make the people crash!

Meeting people in the traffic is fun. It makes the traffic seem not so bad. It is a bit of a challenge to actually make conversation across the highway. A suggestion is make a board with your number on and when he flashes you a smile put it up in the window. It does open you up for all sorts of weirdo’s who may also jot the number down but hey its all about putting yourself out there and getting noticed!

8. Kids parties

Parties are good meeting fodder, who knows who you’ll meet?

As a single mom I am forced to attend all parties my kids get invited too. And it’s proving to be a really great networking tool. It’s surprising how many single parents there actually are. There is also a large number of nannies who attend parties. So if you have nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon grab your niece or nephew and join a kid’s party.

9. A Wake

A wake could be good for you!

No, seriously! Everyone is dressed up in black, they all look hot and are wanting to reaffirm their belief that life is worth living. Be careful though - you don’t want to be the one who ends up with the widow - that would not be good. You could be due a haunting.
